- Unearthing a STORY: Exploring Layers of History with Lori Taylor
Bones, stones, and trash, OH MY! Kids ages 6-11, join Michigan artist and children’s author/illustrator Lori Taylor for a day of story exploring. Dig into Michigan’s past by unearthing the bones, stones, and trash that tell the tale we call history. Get kids into the outdoors with this program to use new “tools” to explore and record the story of their home or favorite vacation stay.
Participants will fold and create a “FIELD NOTE” zine/journal and choose a “site” to unearth and record their findings. Kids will learn how to sketch their observations and discoveries of Lori’s artifact and biofact collections of her travels. Complete the zine cover by decorating with rubbings and stamping of Michigan creatures.
Ever since she was a child, artist/author Lori Taylor has been a collector of treasures, trinkets, and tales of the trail, using sketchbooks to record her travels for her books and art. Lori has been an artist-in-residence for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park where she told the tale of those places in art. She has written and illustrated both children’s picture books and chapter books on Michigan, with her Holly Wild series being selected as a “Great Lakes, Great Reads” by the Historical Society of Michigan. Lori has created several nature center educational exhibits throughout Michigan and lives in Davison, MI where she works as a Media Center ParaPro for Davison Schools getting kids into literacy and into the outdoors.

Take a STORY HIKE with Lori Taylor!
- Follow author/artist Lori Taylor and the pages of her "Young Geek's Guide to Getting Outside" and get to know nature. Kids 3-7 will "come to their senses" and enjoy this story hike in the library's "wild" nature area for them to explore with caregivers.
- Outdoor scavenger hunt and coloring sheet included in this 1 hour program, limit 50. *$320.00 (multiple booking discount available)

- Time for an art break? Create stress-free art in a little over an hour using acrylics, ink, and weird brushes with Michigan artist and illustrator Lori Taylor.
- This workshop is designed for both the beginner artist and seasoned artist and is a way to relax and layer up your seasonal observations to make art for the wall or greeting cards.
Painting is relaxing and often reveals surprises. In collage there is no making of mistakes, so by putting both together have a fun time creating and capturing the feel of the season. This is a wonderfully valuable and simple art practice you can do with a cup of coffee in an hour at home with minimal supplies. Take a mental holiday! Make art in a wild way!

COLLAGRAPH PLATE Making! Part 1
Printing Collagraphs is Fun! Adults 17+ come check out artist Lori' Taylor's collagraph printing plates and make your own. Collagraphs are collages of textured items that produce prints using glue, cardboard, acrylic pastes, and more. The pulled prints can be used as art or for greeting cards, collage paper, or art to hang! This addictive art technique will require a paint shirt or old clothes, we will be cutting and pasting and using acrylic gel mediums. Next class will be pulling a print or two! (Supplies provided) Limit 25 - 1 ½ hr. length program - $500.00 workshop cost
COLLAGRAPH PLATE Printing! Part 2
Patrons 17 years+ will use their finished their collaged collagraph plate from the previous class with learn to pull prints using a brayer or Lori’s DIY printing press. If you don't have a ready made plate, Lori will have some on hand to use and print. We will be using washable oil-based inks so dress for making a mess! The finished prints can be used as collage paper or cropped for cards or art. (Supplies provided)

COLLAGE A BOX CABINET of CURIOSITES
Patrons 17+ bring a box (fitting box lid is optional) for collage. Box size should roughly be around 4 x 6” (checkbook box, greeting card box, iPhone box, etc.) and any favorite magazine to tear, copied photos, or tiny treasures. We will collage with printed papers, printed tissue, old book pages, and more! Relax and recycle as we create a project reflecting your heart’s desire to make magic happen, hold precious memories, or a small wall art piece of tiny wonders! (Supplies provided)

FABRIC ART FRAME ASSEMBLAGE ART!
Adults 17+ will join artist Lori Taylor in arranging and collaging fabrics, fibers, and ephemera into a miniature art wall hanging or fabric photo frame. All supplies are provided to create a small art piece but feel free to bring a small item to add to your art (seashell, coin, button-sized) piece. Lori will show patrons how to arrange and assemble their design and have fun items on hand to collage a frame or wall hanging that tells a story. (Supplies provided)
